In car maintenance, air filters and air conditioning filters are often confused, but they are actually two components with completely different functions. Today we will help you quickly distinguish the differences between them from four perspectives.
First, the objects of action are different
The air filter is the "breathing mask" of the engine, responsible for filtering the air entering the engine, preventing dust, sand and other impurities from wearing the cylinder wall, and ensuring that the engine "breathes" smoothly. The air conditioning filter is the "purification guard" of the air in the car, which can intercept pollutants such as PM2.5, pollen, and odors, providing a healthy breathing environment for drivers and passengers.
Second, the installation position is different
The air filter is hidden in the engine compartment, usually near the air intake, and the hood must be opened to find it; the installation position of the air conditioning filter varies depending on the model, and is often found behind the co-pilot glove box or near the windshield in the engine compartment. Some models do not require tools when replacing, which is more convenient.
Third, the replacement cycle varies depending on the environment.
The replacement cycle of the air filter is greatly affected by the driving environment. It can be replaced every 10,000-20,000 kilometers on ordinary roads, but if it is often driven on construction sites or in areas with frequent sandstorms, it is recommended to shorten it to 5,000-10,000 kilometers. The air conditioning filter is more seasonal. It is recommended to replace it every 6 months during the haze or pollen season, and it can be replaced every 1-2 years in a normal environment.
Fourth, the material and function focus on different aspects.
The air filter prioritizes durability, and the material is mostly paper or cotton. The design allows more air to pass through while intercepting large particles of impurities; while the air conditioning filter emphasizes the filtration accuracy. Ordinary filter paper, activated carbon filter, HEPA filter and other materials are emerging in an endless stream, which can filter tiny particles such as PM0.3 and even absorb odors.
